Prof. Soudeep Deb's
SIGNAL Lab
Statistical Innovation and Guidance for Novel Analytics and Learning
Welcome to the SIGNAL Lab, a research group led by Prof. Soudeep Deb, in the Decision Sciences Area at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. The group works on statistical modelling, data science, machine learning, forecasting, time series analysis, spatio-temporal modelling, nonparametric methods, and applied empirical research.
Our research is motivated by real-world problems from climate, public health, finance, sports, urban systems, social sciences, and policy. We develop statistical and machine learning methods, apply them to complex datasets, and collaborate with academic, industry, and policy partners.
Research focus
The group’s current work broadly spans the following areas:
- Time series analysis and forecasting
- Spatio-temporal modelling
- Quantile regression and extreme value methods
- Statistical machine learning
- Bayesian methods
- Environmental, urban, health, financial, and sports applications
- Policy evaluation and data-driven decision-making

Opportunities
Prof. Deb is considering hiring a new postdoctoral fellow who will be working in the domain of Bayesian approaches in spatio-temporal data. If you are interested in such a role, please send an email to soudeep@iimb.ac.in, with your detailed CV and a statement of purpose containing specific information about how you fit well in this domain.
In general, students and researchers willing to join/collaborate with the group may submit their CV and a short statement of interest through the contact page. For any postdoctoral position, applicants are expected to have a PhD and relevant expertise in probability theory, Bayesian methods, time series, spatial modelling, machine learning, or related areas. For short-term internships or research assistantships, applicants should have a strong motivation to pursue higher studies, and should clearly explain their research interests in the application, along with technical background, and how their interests connect with the group’s work.
